What he does: Katharine Coman & A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics at Wellesley College
In position since: 1981
Why he is powerful: Chip Case, one of the fathers of the Standard & Poor's Case-Shiller Home Price Indexes, has been examining the housing market for many generations, including boom and bust cycles. Case, along with Yale University’s Robert Shiller, predicted the bursting of the housing bubble, and their index has become one of the most followed and influential in the real estate industry. Case, who co-authored Principles of Economics, a popular textbook, has taught at Wellesley for more than three decades and will retire this year.
