Senate panel approves Bernanke's nomination for second term
The Senate banking committee voted 16-7 to endorse another four-year term for Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, although some supporters said they also back proposals that would curb the Fed's role. "With my support comes my insistence that we carefully examine the role of an institution that runs the risk of becoming too complicated to succeed," said Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., chairman of the committee. Bernanke's nomination will head to the full Senate.
