This Day in Wall Street History 1914: Markets reopen after outbreak of WWI

Following the outbreak of World War I, the nation's markets temporarily shut down to safeguard against a debilitating bear run. But on Dec. 1, 1914, traders were back at it again, at least on the West Coast, where the San Francisco Stock & Bond Exchange became the first U.S. exchange to re-open its doors for business.
