This Day in Wall Street History 1845: Texas starts paying taxes

After shuttling from Spanish to Mexican rule, and also enjoying a decade as an independent republic, Texas started its run as a member of the United States in 1845. On December 29, 1845, U.S. Customs conferred fiscal legitimacy on Texas's admission to the Union and began to collect revenue in the state.
